A 21-year-old man from Savage is charged with breaking into a Burnsville home through the kitchen window on Monday and caused a 9-month-old child to fall and hit her head, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Five people from Shakopee and Savage are among 18 charged today in federal court in connection with a Twin Cities indoor marijuana growing ring called “one of the largest drug operations of its kind in Minnesota” by Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek.
Shakopee was among the metropolitan-area leaders in residential building permits issued in June, and is the regional leader in the first six months of the year, according to the Builders Association of the Twin Cities.
Russell Baze, the winningest jockey in North American thoroughbred racing history, is coming to Minnesota to ride in the 11th annual Claiming Crown, July 25 at Canterbury Park in Shakopee.
Baze will have mounts on three or four horses for trainer Lloyd Mason and owner Ed Denike.
On Feb. 1, 2008, Baze became the first rider in North America to win 10,000 races and through Wednesday had a career win total of 10,570. Both Baze and Mason are based in Northern California.
Shakopee Indians outfielder Joey Heller and Shakopee Coyotes first baseman Andy Lazzari have been selected to play in the River Valley League vs. Dakota-Rice-Scott All-Star game.
Heller will play for the River Valley League while Lazzari will play for the DRS team.
The all-star game will be played at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 10 in New Prague.
Before the game, fans are invited out to watch the two teams take batting and fielding practice beginning at 5:30 p.m.
A Home Run Derby will take place at 7:30 p.m.

The housing-market slump in the Twin Cities area is well known, but the city of Shakopee gained 754 residents — an increase of 2.3 percent — between July 1, 2007 and July 1 last year, according to estimates by the U.S. Census Bureau.

When the property value for Ed Chapman’s home along the Minnesota River in rural Jordan kept rising by double digits, he only wanted an
explanation.
Chapman mailed a letter to St. Lawrence Township Assessor Leo Anderly to find out what was going on. No one had ever been out to inspect the place, and with fungus growing on the trees and his Cathedral-shaped house in need of recaulking, the assessment seemed out-of-whack.
Charlotte Welin, 79, formerly of St. Louis Park, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the Jones Harrison Residence in Minneapolis.
Visitation is Thursday, July 2, from 5-7 p.m. and Friday one-half hour before services at McNearney Funeral Home, 1220 E. Third Ave., Shakopee.
