I want to congratulate both Pamala Punt and Steve Clay on their election to city council. Both deserve our support to make Shakopee a better place. I also want to thank all those that supported me regardless of the outcome.

Not very happy to see that we have a mayor that do not seem to care for the people of Shakopee. He did not show up at the candidate’s forum at Marcus Theaters last Sunday. I understand he might have had a valid reason, but not providing a reason for his non-attendance I consider it disrespectful with our community. The citizens present at that meeting were concerned with the mayor's lack of transparency and interest in the issues of the community. The police department was also criticized in the meeting for their lack of involvement in the increasing meth problem we have in Shakopee. Mayor we demand more involvement in the community concerns, we demand a more effective police enforcement of law by the police department and we demand your respect to the community when your presence is requested. Shakopee is a raw jewel, but the jewelers are taking too long to polish it. Our city council and administrators appear very stale. Get on with the times and start using Facebook, YouTube and this blog as your forums. Nobody under 55 watches the community channel, this is media from the 70's and in today’s world they are very unappealing. I am happy for our new council woman, Pamela Punt whom I supported. Pamela, please bring a spark of energy to our soporific city council and mayor, and get that police force moving, you heard the complaints.

According to my notes from that night, what he said is that he thought it'd be hard to cut down in either law enforcement or the fire department, but perhaps the city could save money by having firefighters work more cohesively with other fire departments.

Shakopee crowns its Mayor-for-Life, John Schmitt
And the lesson to challengers is that you have to seek office armed with new ideas and plans, not just tired claptrap about "fiscal conservatism" and a race to the bottom. (Happily, newcomer Pamela Punt ousted longtime Schmitt rubber-stamper and yes man Terry Joos to take a city council seat.) Shakopee could be a dynamic and rewarding place to live and work under capable leadership, but for too long has wasted the opportunity afforded by growth. Mayor Schmitt remains in thrall to developers and doesn't present any clear vision of Shakopee's future. Sadly, old guard Shakopee voters have ratified the status quo.

I think that Todd Schoenike put a nail in his own coffin. The night of the Mayoral forum when he said that if faced with public safety cuts, he would cut firefighters first. We love our Shakopee Firemen!

You're right, you didn't have to go to Rush or Glen for this information. Instead, you went to William F. Buckley, Jr. as though there is a big difference. You do realize the articles you attached are opinion pieces from conservative media outlets right?

The direct quotes you use are opinions, not your own of course. No "indoctrination" in using the words of others to make your point.

Your quote from Stanley Kurtz is meerly opinion. Please supply me with the direct mandate to allow homosexuals into the priesthood. You can't.

This, however is a direct quote from Cardinal Grocholewski:

"The candidate does not necessarily have to practise homosexuality. He can even be without sin," the Cardinal said. "But if he has this deep-seated tendency, he cannot be admitted to priestly ministry precisely because of the nature of the priesthood, in which a spiritual paternity is carried out. Here we are not talking about whether he commits sins, but whether this deeply rooted tendency remains."

And I'm sorry, but I consider an adult who takes advantage of an adolescent for sexual purposes to be a sexual predator. This behavior is illegal for a reason.

In recent decades there have been hundreds if not thousands of cases where adult male teachers, coaches, etc. have been charged with sexual assualt for engaging in sexual contact with female minors.

By using your same logic, apparently America's schools have a heterosexual problem.

Your undercutting remarks will do nothing to win your argument. We will just have to agree to disagree. You can stick to your anti-gay position, and I will continue to argue that the overwhelming majority of gay men (as well as straight men) in this country have no desire to be sexually abusive toward others.
