Fashion designer Christopher Straub crafted a dozen dresses for season six of “Project Runway,” but in the end, he won’t be showing at New York Fashion Week.
Judges sent the Shakopee designer home in the final challenge Thursday, comparing his dress to a “thick jean skirt.”
The two-day challenge was to use the Getty Center for inspiration. Straub based his dress on a fountain and rocks with algae growing on them.
Judge Nina Garcia said Straub has ideas but technically he's not there. Judge Klum agreed, saying while he has put out beautiful pieces, he needs more experience.
"We love it that you can see beauty in the unusual," Klum told Straub. "That is a strength that you have and you should never lose that.”
While disappointed, the 30-year-old accepted the decision gracefully.
"I’m lucky I got to compete," Straub said. "I don’t get to complete a 12-look collection, but I completed a 12-look collection on the runway [for the show].”
The final three -- Althea Harper, Carol Hannah Whitfield and Irina Shabayeva -- will show collections at Bryant Park in an episode that was taped in February.
