UPDATE: Crash fatality from Jordan; other driver from Shakopee

One person was killed in a two-vehicle head-on crash this afternoon on icy Highway 169 in Shakopee.

Michah R. Gurgel, 30, of Jordan, was killed, according to the State Patrol.



Two cited after Prior Lake High School drug sweep

Citations were issued to two Prior Lake High School students after an unannounced drug sweep was conducted on the school campus the day before Halloween.

No narcotics or contraband were found inside the school on Oct. 30, but K-9 drug dogs did alert Dakota County Drug Task Force agents to a number of vehicles in the parking lot, according to Capt. Dave Muelken. In all, more than 10 vehicles were searched, but narcotics were only located in two.



Lions Tap settles beef with McDonald's

Popular local burger eatery Lions Tap has reached a settlement with McDonald's Corp. over the hamburger giant's use of the slogan "Who's Your Patty" in a multimillion-dollar advertising campaign for Angus burgers. 

In documents filed in federal court today, the Eden Prairie restaurant withdraws its suit, which asked for a financial judgment and McDonald's to quit using Lions Tap's trademarked phrase in all advertising.

Detectives from Hennepin County lay in waiting outside Caribou Coffee in Shakopee around midnight two weeks ago as a major Twin Cities burglary suspect allegedly began his work.

They watched Timothy Michael Kielb try to pry open the front door and then sprint to the back of the store, where he apparently made his way
in.

A green dragon and a little cowgirl were among five visitors of Prior Lake City Hall on Friday morning who got both treats and a trick after an elevator malfunctioned and left them trapped inside for about 25 minutes.

Prior Lake woman pleads guilty to mortgage fraud

A 45-year-old Prior Lake woman pleaded guilty in federal court last week to stealing more than $470,000 in a mortgage fraud scheme designed for payment of title insurance premiums.

Roseann Wagner pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud and one count of failure to file a tax return on Oct. 23. She was federally charged on Oct. 13.



Suspect in 150 heists busted in Shakopee

A Brooklyn Center man suspected in at least 150 burglaries was tracked to Shakopee two weeks ago, where he and two others were arrested after he allegedly broke into Caribou Coffee.

The investigation was the work of multiple agencies in the Twin Cities.

Shakopee winter parking restrictions take effect on Sunday

Beginning Nov. 1, no parking is allowed on city streets from 2 to 6
a.m. in most of Shakopee. Alternate-day parking restrictions apply to the older section of town.

Odd/even parking rules govern the area bordered by the Minnesota River on the north and Tenth Avenue on the south, and by Marschall Road on the east and County Rd 69 on the west. On even-numbered days, parking is allowed on the even-numbered side of the street between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. On odd-numbered days, people can park on the odd-numbered side during those hours.



Neuman loved life, people, spiritual quests

Liz Neuman will be remembered by friends and family as a “vivacious” and “lovely” person who was always smiling, positive and had a tremendous talent for working with teens.

“She had a determination to her walk,” said Audrey Peterson, a minister at Unity of the Valley Church in Savage, where Neuman was a parishioner. “She knew what she was going to do next, and she got things done.”
